Eating disorder treatment center will lead post-performance discussions on play themes.
BEACHWOOD, Ohio — March 29, 2010 — The Cleveland Center for Eating Disorders (CCED), an outpatient treatment center specializing in evidence-based care for bulimia and anorexia nervosa, is the lead sponsor for the theatrical production “EAT (It’s Not About Food),” performed by the Fairmount Center for the Arts, in a 12-performance run beginning April 15 through May 2, at Mayfield Village Civic Center, Mayfield Village, Ohio.
“EAT (It’s Not About Food)” explores the world of eating disorders, and society’s obsession with food, weight and body image through the eyes of teens and adults struggling with this epidemic, as well as the causes and warning signs.
“We value the opportunity to support this influential performance that addresses the issues surrounding eating disorders, which affect so many young people today,” said Mark Warren MD, CCED’s co-founder and medical director. “As a clinical treatment center and an educational resource, our goal is to create an open dialogue and help give a voice to those suffering in silence.”
As the lead sponsor, CCED, in conjunction with University Hospitals’ (UH) Geauga Medical Center and local physicians, will help raise awareness and educate the Northeastern Ohio community on eating disorders and the treatment available in the area. CCED will lead 30-minute open discussions immediately after each performance, giving the audience an opportunity to interact with eating disorder specialists, and elaborate on topics that were presented in the play.
Fairmount Performing Arts Conservatory (FPAC), part of the Fairmount Center for the Arts, is leading the production, which was written by Linda Daugherty and directed by Fred Sternfeld.
"We want to provide our audience the opportunity to be entertained, stimulated, educated and connected to the critical topic of eating disorders through our professional theatrical production,” said Jeff Grover, president of Fairmount Center for the Arts and producer of “EAT (It’s Not About Food)”. “The combination of the production, and our extraordinary sponsors and professional resources providing post-play discussions, will make a difference in many people's lives."
