The Cleveland Center for Eating Disorders offers an Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program to treat eating disorders in children and teens. We encourage you to speak with our Trusted Specialist.
Our children and teen Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is designed to provide intermediate care for adolescents suffering from an eating disorder. Patients meet three to five days a week, up to three hours each day, for a total of nine to 15 hours.
Throughout the week, children and teens attend scheduled group therapy sessions, have their weights and vitals (blood pressure and pulse) monitored and eat meals and/or snacks in a supportive group environment. Patients are encouraged to include family members or other significant individuals during their treatment program.
Our adolescent IOP group therapy sessions each week may include:
- Skills groups to teachchildren and teens the necessary skills for coping and emotion regulation.
- Discussion groups to help adolescents discover healthy ways to manage their environments.
- We work with children and teens to set goals for themselves and then discuss how they can manage them without engaging in problematic behaviors.
- We focus on supporting parents implementation of Maudsley Family Based Therapy and the psycho-education of eating disorders.
